Lucky 13

So guess who got voted to manage the decorating of our team for Halloween.  Yippee.  (That was sarcasm).  My idea for doing the Friday the 13th was chosen, so now I have the task of figuring out how to decorate the cubicles.  My supervisor is going to be Jason and my team lead Jason’s mother.  The rest of the team is going to be the survivors of the movies.  I know I want a gravestone, a camp sign and an arsenal of weapons.  Of course, being work, they are probably going to have to be cardboard.  I started a list while watching a couple of the movies.  This lists includes a cleaver, rope (to tie as a noose), safety utility knife, a hoe, a poker, an axe, machete and more.  I love these movies, I am not so sure I can pull off the decorating though.  Oh and I forgot the most important decoration—the hockey mask.  That I have to go to the story and buy.

The In Crowd

Yesterday, Andy and I mall walked.  We really didn’t go to the mall for really anything, but to get more steps.  As we were walking, I started noticing the most annoying thing on a lot of the guys.  I do  not know why it bothers me so much, but the collars turned up on polo shirts.  I had the urge to go fix it.  I do not know why people think it looks cool.   But then again, I never liked the visor turned upside-down and crooked either.  Does that mean I am getting old?

Take the Lead

So I started walking on the treadmill again and have decided one thing that will help me is watching movies I have never seen.  I watched Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas.  I never realized I actually like him as an actor.  I think it partly is because of him in Shrek.  He voices a great Puss in Boots.  Take the Lead is about a former ballroom dancer bringing his love of dance to inner city schools.  The story is based on the life of Pierre Dulaine.  It is one of those feel good movies that you pretty much know the ending, but you have to watch it.  I love dancing movies.  I think it started with Dirty Dancing.  I saw Patrick Swayze on TV today, so I will probably have to watch it before I go to bed tonight.  The dance off at the end of Take the Lead is awesome.  It makes me want to learn to dance.  This movie is something you watch when you do not want to think, but want to walk away thinking, wow I feel good.

The other interesting thing about this movie is at the begining, you want to hate the principal, played by Alfie Woodard. She seems like the ultimate witch. But as the story goes on, you learn that she does care about these kids. She starts to like Pierre and his ideas. When a fellow teacher tries to get rid of Pierre, she lets Pierre explain why he should stay. It makes me wonder why dance isn’t stressed as much in school.  He states that he teaches respect and trust and confidence through dance.  What parent wouldn’t want to have their child have all three of those personality traits.  Alfrie even shows up to the competition to watch these students who once were just detentionees, and watch them achieve something. It is moving and a total chic flick that I enjoyed watching.

What to do?

I feel that since Andy bought me a really nice necklace, I wish I could find something cool for him that he would appreciate. I like to buy gifts that aren’t always conventional.  Like for his birthday right after we met, I got him his favorite beer along with some other things like the DVD of his favorite movie “The Princess Bride.”  I may have to look at getting him some cool memorabilia. It’s not something he would ever buy himself and really truly is one of a kind.  I did find something that I think Andy would truly like.  And this is something I could live with putting up in my house:

I could live with having a picture of Johnny Depp and his signature in our house forever. He’s one of my favorite actors. I like that I have all these different choices of different Pirates of the Caribbean posters and pictures.  I like that the gun adds a little bit extra to the picture.

I would just like it if there was one for The Princess Bride.  I think I could secure great gifts for life if I did that.  I think his friends would be jealous of him for that.  Even more than they are of him having me.  He he!

Time to Quit

Wisconsin has finally come to a state budget.  There is actually one thing that would affect us that I know of.  They are upping the cigarette tax.  Normally, it wouldn’t matter too much for me but it does for Andy.  We are doing a budget soon so we can see how long it is until we get a new car.  The problem is that the cigarette tax is going to go up $1.00 per pack.  So I am going to urge Andy to quit as soon as possible.

Caller ID

Telemarketing companies must be losing some brain cells.  I think they forgot that a lot of people have caller id now.  Even my parents have caller id.  I use it all the time.  I really only answer the phone when its a number I recognize.  Yesterday, when the phone rang, Andy looked to see who was calling.  All the ID said was Telemarketing.  Who would answer that?  Actually Andy did, but no-one was there.

Im Starting

Today I have decided to start Christmas shopping.  Most of my gifts that I buy are movies or gift certificates that I can get at Target or Best Buy.  We are using our walking money to buy Christmas gifts this year.  The only problem I have is that I never know what kind of Christmas Gifts for Mom to get.   I like for those gifts to be unique and not something you can find in every department store.

I think its kind of funny that I went to this site looking for my mother and mother in law gifts, but I think I found something for my sister.  Since my sister comes to my site all the time, I will not say what.  I found another cool idea, a Marquis By Waterford Crystal Yours Truly Jewelry/Ring Holder.  I’m weird, I take my wedding ring off each night.  I would scratch Andy with it or myself, the way I sleep.  I always put it in a jewelry box, but it would be nice to display it nicely.  I think it maybe something I could get for my mother.  Or even Andy’s mother.  I like the gifts to choose the receiver, so this one caught my eyes.

Boy Troubles

Andy’s infamous friend has struck again.  He is still without a license, but he’s sunk to a new low now.  Instead of conning his friends into rides to bars, he’s actually went a more direct route.  Last night he called Andy and asked what we were doing that night.  Andy said nothing really (my best friend came over so we could watch House and then we went to a bar she used to work at and played some shuffleboard).  His friend said okay bye and hung up on him.  I think that really hurt Andy’s feelings.  I think he’s starting to realize what type of friend this guy is.  So now Andy’s going to step up the pace of getting our $100 back from the guy and hopefully once that happens, we can not hang out with him anymore.

I alone

I hate being alone in our house, especially at night.  I love our cat. I really do.  But I do not think the cat would really protect me in a home invasion.  ( I have been watching too much television.  Last night on Criminal Minds, home owners were killed by seemingly nice individuals.)  I hate that Andy makes me sleep on the side closest to the door.  I have always been afraid of that.   I would really like protection dogs to take care of me.

Cats are great pets, but I would love to be able to have a pet that walks with me.  That would help me so much with my walking.  The only problem is that we sold the dog house in our backyard.  We would have no place for the dog to live.

I am a writer.  I hate that fact late at night when I am alone and trying to get to sleep.  Every creak, every little sound when Andy is not around makes me jump.  I think the right dog would fit perfectly with Adi (the cat).  Plus the cat is really Andy’s.  We have been discussing getting another pet.  Andy thinks if we get a pet it will be that much longer before we start a family.  Since he wants to wait to start a family until we are out of debt, I do not think that will happen anytime soon.  So unless there’s an oopsy, I think we are getting another pet.

What would you do for $25?

Our challenge started on Wednesday for walking.  I have worked very hard each day so far to get 20000 steps a day.  Its not as hard as most people think.  It is actually pretty easy.  Except on Thursday when my supervisor decided to offer overtime for this week and since its offered, I needed to take it.  The worst thing is I made sure to make to get 20000 by 11 pm last night.  I got it a 10:55.  And then we got up at 4 a.m to go to work.  This is all so Andy and i are in the top 125 to get $25.  I mean we will get $50.00.
