Halloween-Rob Zombie Style

Tonight was half price at the Budget Cinema and finally we saw Halloween.  I paid for the tickets, only 3 bucks for the two of us.  Andy got to buy the popcorn and drinks.  (Yes, I know it all comes out of the same account, it just feels better when it doesn’t come out of mine.)

Rob Zombie’s version of Halloween is simply sex, nakedness and murder.  This version does give more information about the history of Michael Myers.  At first, while watching the movie, it upset me a bit that they weren’t giving the reason that Michael was doing the killings.  But I think I finally figured out that there was a point to that.  Michael was a psychopath, he had no remorse and no conscious.  I think the older I get, the more I realize there really are people like that out there.

The music in the movie was great.  They had the normal songs–like Sandman.  But they kept playing “Don’t Feel the Reaper.”   You know, “I need more cowbell.” Saturday Night Live and Christopher Walken.  The other thing I like about the movie, the mother of Michael was played by Rob Zombie’s real wife.

I would recommend this movie for someone who wants a mild scare.  The first one was scarier, but if you like horror movies, this one shouldn’t be missed.  Plus its fun to see helpless victims being stupid when the killer is chasing them by crying and screaming while hiding.

Nutrition in Disguise

Wow, the Halloween milk campaign really worked for me. I know it was aimed towards kids that drinking chocolate milk is good for you.  It is nutrition in disguise.  Since then, every-time we go to the store, we buy a half gallon of chocolate milk.  I am slowly starting to eat and drink healthier.  It really does make me feel better about myself.

What else?

Christmas is getting close, fast.  I want the time to slow down.  I am trying to figure out what else my parents can get Andy and I for Christmas.  For some reason, I love concentrating on the landscaping outside for gifts for us.  One thing that I always look at when we go to the store (Linens and Things, Menards, Home Depot) is realistic fake rocks that you can display your address on.  I always hate when I go to a friends house for the first time at night and not being able to see the numbers on the house.  (I remember a friend told us that their house was brown–we were going at night and they lived in the country.)  I have heard they are also helpful for rescue workers, god forbid anything bad would happen.

Artificial Rocks Factory is the place to go to when looking for the address markers.  I like the choices of different rocks and displays to use.  These rocks accentuate what you already have outside to your home for decoration.  You can go with the 1,000 pound boulder if you can be so lucky to afford it or you can handle the 50-60 lb boulder for those who still like style outside.  The cool thing is with the address plaque, a anti-theft device is even included.  The best thing is you really can not tell if the rocks are real or fake.  Plus its an attractive way to advertise.

I think these would be great housewarming gifts or Christmas presents to the person who has everything.  This is a gift that you may want, but never really get around to buying for yourself. I know I would enjoy something like this either for Christmas or my birthday.  But I guess we will just have to see.

Slapgiving

If you have never watched How I Met Your Mother, tonight was the night to watch.  It was the night Marshall had been counting down to, the night Barney had been dreading, slap number three.  Recap: a couple of months ago Barney and Marshall had made a slap bet which Barney lost.  That meant that Marshall could slap Barney 5 times from then until whenever he finishes.  It actually is a good story line for people who follow the show.  I like it when sitcoms have continuous storyline.  I can’t wait to see when slap 4 and 5 come along. I mean, Marshall even sang a song about the slap.

Landline or No?

Yesterday when I was shopping, I was looking at the phones.  Andy’s phone is about 7 years old now and its starting to show its years.  I can barely hear when I am talking to someone on it.  I suggested to Andy that that could be the rest of his Christmas present from my mother.  He was kind of upset that I didn’t just want to try to change the cordless phone battery to see if that simple fix would work.  Then he suggested getting rid of the land-line.  I do not know if I want to do that.  It just would seem weird.  I know we both have cell phones, but it would just seem weird.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Tonight we had our friend Thanksgiving dinner.  It has gotten smaller over the years, but it was very cozy.  I had the table set by about noon this morning, since it was easy.  Its nice to be able to use our china that Andy wanted.  It makes me feel so grown up to use too.
thanksg-005.jpg  People were over by about 5.  Coolest thing ever, the girls and I sat in the living room talking while the men were in the kitchen cooking.  We liked how that turned out!   Now if only I could have gotten away from doing the dishes.  But here is what the meal turned out to look like:

thanksg-007.jpg  We had brown and serve rolls (my favorite, although I only had two this year) Turkey, Green Bean Casserole (brought by my best friend) mashed potatoes, grilled squash and zucchini, and canned cranberry sauce (can’s the only way for me!)   We ended with pumpkin and cranberry pecan pie.  Let me just tell you, I think I gained 5 pounds, but it was worth spending time with our friends and being thankful.  Plus we have a bunch of leftovers!

Biotene Toothpaste

Today when I was at the store ( I was doing retail therapy, my husband wasn’t helping me clean at the exact moment I wanted to so I went shopping to relieve some stress.)  Anyway, I was walking by toothpaste aisle and saw Biotene mouthwash, which totally reminded me of the Biotene toothpaste sample I received.

I have somewhat sensitive teeth.  I hate it when I want to eat ice cream because my stomach is craving it, but it hurts so bad to eat it because my teeth do not like the coldness.  Or even trying to take a sip of cold water on a hot and humid day should be relief, but instead hurts.  This toothpaste would have helped me out in the past by not letting me suffer through things that I should otherwise enjoy.  Its not a band-aid solution, its to help cure the problem.  I hate when I try something and it only masks the problem instead of helping to resolve the problem.

My favorite thing about this sensitive toothpaste is that I actually really like the taste.  I am not a mint fan.  It is hard to find any type of toothpaste that is not in mint flavor or cinnamon (neither or which I can handle).  Biotene has a very unique taste.  My sister explained it the best–tastes like Chiclets.   I may even go back to the store to pick up a full tube of Biotene with the mouthwash.

Growing Up

Last night, after the Passion Party, my friends and I sat down to talk.  (We have all been friends since middle school so for over 13 years).  We were discussing our college years and discussing how stupid we used to be.  If my mother only knew, she would kill me.

Since some of friends are in the processing of becoming parents, we were discussing what exactly we would tell our kids when they grew up about what we were like when we were younger.  I don’t think I am going to lie to them and just tell them that I stayed home and never went out.  But I do know that we all have some photo albums and diaries we have to hide from our children.

(If you can’t tell I am trying desperately to find something else to do rather than clean the bathroom.)

Four Foods on Friday Question 5

Here we go again.  Fun, Crafts and Recipes new questions.  Man, this really makes me hungry:

#1. Slushees. What’s your favorite flavor or ingredients?  I like strawberry, which is weird because I hate real strawberries with a passion, but strawberry flavored things I like.
#2. What food do you wish you could cook well but can’t?  I think everything.  I cook what the recipe states exactly.  I think I am so afraid to deviate from the exact recipes, and it shows in my coooking.
#3. What’s the tastiest thing you can make with instant pudding?  I’ve never tried anything yet.  I haven’t graduated to much from the box baking yet!
#4. What is the funniest food related comment you’ve heard within the past two weeks?  That looks like tomatoes (see picture below, its bratwurst in curry ketchup)

House-Cleaning

We are having people over for our friends Thanksgiving, and again, I get stuck with most of the cleaning.  Granted, Andy is making the turkey and stuff, but I have dust, vacuum, put stuff away, clean the bathroom (ewww) and set the table and all that jazz.  Plus, we put the turkey in the roaster so Andy really isn’t doing a ton of stuff.  Not to mention, while I’m cleaning the bathroom, he’ll be watching the game.  I actually should be cleaning right now, but I am procrastinating.
