I want a New Car

Andy thinks we will have his car paid off when we get our taxes back!  Yippee!  I am excited.  He has a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am which is over 100,000 miles and probably won’t last too many more Wisconsin winters.   We have discussed what new car we want–Toyota Prius.  I would love to have this vehicle–its good for the environment and I do not think it has any car spoilers.  I do not like spoilers, I think they detract from the car.  Guys have told me it helps with the speed, but I think they look funny.  Even so, the Prius would be nice to have.  I have never had a new car.  But Andy wants to go awhile without any car payments (not counting the money I owe my father (interest free) for my car).   So we will see.  But a new car would be so nice!

Tree Awe

My best friend came over last night to play “PayDay” (one of Andy’s Xmas gifts–its kind of fun, but too much like the real world–you have to pay bills.  But it was my birthday for 3 months straight so that was nice).  My hubby was not home yet when she arrived, so I showed her all the gifts we had under the tree.  I think her jaw is still on the floor.  Andy and I get kind of spoiled by our parents.  Its not that it is big gifts, just a lot of small gifts.  I got “My So Called Life” series, Pirates 3, cheese spreaders (I so have another post to write about these–just wait its a good one) and a lot more.  Andy’s favorite gift was the game and I think the 16 ramekins and kitchen scale he’s been asking for.  Tomorrow is going to suck putting away all the gifts.  Plus we are going to Van Vreedes (a furniture store) to see if we can pull the 100% envelope to maximum discount of $1000.00.  I figure if we pull something like 10%, no skin off our back, but it would be so worth it to get the $1000 off.  No rest for the wicked!

Holiday Season

Oh my, have we been busy.  It’s Sunday and I am just now starting to relax at 4:15 p.m.  I do have to work tomorrow and I was a stupid person and took 4 hours overtime next week, so this week is going to be long.  On Friday, Andy’s brother from Germany came to visit so we had dinner with them and his friends from high school and college days.  On Saturday, we did brunch with his brother and had my cousin’s wedding.  Today, we had a holiday party at my cousin’s bar.  Tonight we are also finally going to play PayDay, one of Andy’s birthday presents.   Next weekend, we don’t get to relax either–we have my niece’s 4th birthday.  I told Andy the weekend after that—we are doing nothing.  I just can’t believe how busy we have been lately.  It really sucks getting older.

Oxygen Concentrators

My mom has been badgering my cousin to go to Las Vegas with her and my dad.  My cousin has Cystic Fibrosis so traveling gets a little complicated.  I do knwo that he has a oxygen concentrators.  He has yet to say yes to my mom, he says maybe next year.  He went with them last year and had the time of his life.  I know one of these days I am going to have join them on the trip.  I have heard how much fun it is, even though “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

A Hint Maybe?

My best friend recently moved back from California and has routinely been eating at her parents 2-3 times a week.  She did find a job here, but its nice to be able to spend time with her family ( I think its partly about the food though :)) For Xmas, they got her a $100 grocery gift certificate.  It is a nice gift, but she asked them if it was a hint!   (It wasn’t)  But it could have been.  I would like a grocery gift certificate–its not something someone usually thinks of, but it is a nice gift.

Benefits of a Husband

I awoke this morning to the annoying sound of a plow going through.  I knew it was going to, I just wasn’t prepared to wake up to it.  I wanted to get to work for 6, but now its seems like 6:30 which is okay too.  We only work until 11.  I figured the only other thing we would do before then is sleep and why waste our vacation?   But the benefit of a husband–send him out to snowblow!  Makes less work for me!

No Sympathy

Is it wrong that I have no sympathy for the supposed “headache” my husband has?  When we got home from his parents, he went to a bar to watch the rest of the game.  I asked him to be home right after the game (which was not a home game) so that we could clean.  Game ended at 3, its now almost 5.  He doesn’t understand why I am mad at him.  And now he’s sitting there watching television saying he has a headache.  So what, so do I and I’m still cleaning.  I wrapped the presents, I’m doing the laundry.  Men are so frustrating.  They just need to learn to do it the woman’s way and the woman will be happy.

Recalculating Karen

Andy’s parents just got a GPS for their car, a TomThumb, I think.  I know my sister just purchased one on Black Friday.  Even though they knew where they were going, they used it to see how it works.  Andy set it up so the voice that speaks is Australian English-named Karen.  Well, it started to become a game when we would have Karen recalculate the route when we wouldn’t take a turn she wanted to.  I would so do that with a GPS.  I guess Chris, Andy’s brother, went to the grocery store with the GPS (American English-Jill) and the Jill wasn’t aware that there was a new bridge and thought Chris had driven into the water.   I think its actually quite helpful gift.  I can see why they were pushing them this year.  Plus a guy never has to leave the car for directions.  I would like this because I never know where I am when I am driving.  It helps find restaurants and movie theaters and so much more.  Plus theirs has a mp3 player. Andy doesn’t think we need one since he always knows where he is going.

Deals

Its amazing the stuff you talk about with your husband once your married.  It seems like nothing is off limits.  Andy and I have made a deal if I lose 30 pounds, he will quit doing a certain bad habit and then I can get something I want.  This isn’t the weird part of the conversation.  He said I would have to do it the healthy way-no starving, pills etc (which I would never do–I watch Lifetime).  But then he brings up this article he read about how everyone has like 35 pounds of waste in your intestine at any given time.  So he said maybe if I would think of having my colon cleansed.  Imagine losing pounds just like that!  I don’t know if I truly believe that, but it would be nice!

Sweeny Todd

Guess what I saw last night?  Well, I guess the title gives it away.  We had to drive about an hour away to see it since the whole Marcus theater thing, but it was well worth the drive.  The movie is about an hour and a half.  This was one of my picks of movies to see this weekend.  Andy’s dad’s only complaint was too many throats were slashed. The set was done in complete Tim Burton style–dark.  The movie was like any other Johnny Depp movie, although its may have been made to be dark, he added some comedic effect.  I don’t know if I can be a good judge of whether the movie was good or not because it had Johnny in.  I liked it.  Andy was quite amused.

The singing was great–Johnny can sing!  I read an article where they didn’t see if he could sing before he took the part.  Helena Bonham Carter also was a good singer and actress.  I know I’ve seen her in stuff before and I know she’s Tim Burton’s girlfriend, but she did great.  She started the movie looking really like a hag and in the middle looked very nice and then in the end a hag again.

I would say this is a movie to watch every couple of years.  Not something I could watch every year.  It has a lot of blood, so if you don’t like blood stay away.  It is a musical, so if you don’t like singing, stay away.  But if you love Johnny–its one of his best performances.  Lets just say, I’ve never truly believed someone could be in love with a razor until this movie!
