Not a Bright Idea

I never believe the weathermen anymore.  They have been saying every other week (or so it seems) that there is going to be this huge snowstorm, and then it just misses us or fizzles out before it gets here.  So I didn’t believe when they said 12 inches today.  ( I feel like we have gotten half already.)

Andy and I drove to JCPenny’s today.  Yesterday, he did something stupid.  It wasn’t really his fault, but he tore his winter jacket he just got for Xmas on the snow-blower.  The jacket caught and it tore.   We decided to go shopping, since there is nothing really better to do.  We ended up with an awesome deal.  We walk in the door, and wham–ladies leather coat for $39.97.   Oddly enough, my faux leather coat just got tossed yesterday because the buttons were rubbing off the faux leather.  Then we went to men’s jackets and found a spring one and a winter one.  (He’s very particlar about being too hot–so we got both.)   The winter one was on sale for $30.00 and the spring for $40.00.  Plus we had a $10 off coupon, so three jackets at $105.00.   You cannot go wrong on that.

But as we were leaving, we noticed the sign on the door that the store was closing due to the weather at 2.  We started driving to my parents and realized the weather was getting worse.  But we still went there and sat for awhile.  We arrived back home and Andy let me off buy the door, but we have to walk up about 4 steps.  Just stepping out of the car, the snow was halfway to my knee.  I had to change pants once in the door.

Andy’s out snow-blowing right now and we will probably have to do it once more tonight, but I have a feeling he is telling me we are going to have to plan a trip next year this time to Jamaica or someplace.  Based on the weather, we may even consider buying the travel insurance.  I don’t know how much more snow I can take!

Blind Squirrel

After the Four Foods question on what is your favorite alcoholic drink, it actually put in the mood to go out last night.  Or maybe it was actually working on a Saturday.  Who knows!  But we went out with some friends.

Your probably wondering about the blind squirrel title, aren’t you?  A couple of years ago, we used to go out all the time with Andy’s friend Chris and play darts.  I’m an average player, not too good, not too bad.  But compared to Andy and Chris—I kind of suck.  I have beaten Chris and Andy once or twice and that is where blind squirrel comes from.  If I win, he says “Even a blind squirrel gets an acorn sometimes.”

Well last night, guess who got an acorn?  Me!  I beat my husband and Chris.  I rock!   I was actually pretty good.  I do miss going out to play darts.  Its nice and relaxing, especially since our bar that we go to is not so busy anymore.

The Moment of Truth

I hate to admit it, but I actually kind of like this new game show on Fox.  I thought it was going to be so stupid.  Well, it is stupid, but its addicting.  You want to see if the person answers the questions truthfully and how much they want to explain.  I can see marriages and relationships ruined over this show.

Here is the gist: Person is asked 50 questions prior to the night of the show.  On the night of the show, 21 are picked.  The person answers them truthfully (to win the money) in front of their friends, family, coworkers, studio audience and the world.  For example, one of the questions usually is “Have you ever stolen something from your job?”  This one of the more normal questions that almost anyone is going to say yes to.  Its not uncommon for someone to take a pen from work and count that as stealing.  Its not like they are stealing some new pocket watches.  The questions that are hard are the ones you have to interpret what they are really asking and how you really feel about it.

Its weird what people will do for money.  I do not think I would do it because they seem to exploit your weaknesses.  I do not have anything to hide, but I also do not want the whole world to know that.  The show does offer some good questions to ask of your family and friends.

Laundry Woes

I do not how productive this is, but I am blogging while folding the laundry.  I’m trying hard to be a good wife, but when my husband is off galavanting around time, I like to relax by blogging or surfing the net.  But then I start to feel guilty about not doing the housework, so I compromise with myself.  Anyways, my thoughts on laundry—why is it my husbands has so many clean socks and where did all mine go?  It seems like ever sock that comes out of the basket is his?  Does he hid mine at the bottom of the hamper?  Is it an evil plan to make me have cold feet?

Don’t Believe in Saturdays

Working on Saturdays that is.  I screwed myself over this week.  I took 10 hours of overtime, but it wasn’t the best week of the month to do it, if you get my drift.  I only worked about 8 hours on Monday and Tuesday and after a 12 hour day on Wednesday, I was exhausted.  My husband told me that he’d rather see me work on Saturday than to work myself ragged.  So I sucked it up and went to work this morning for 3 and a half hours.  I actually was quite productive, but of course, since I was up so early, I decided to go shopping.  So it was kind of a counter productive day.  Oh well. I only bought stuff we needed.  Or may need.  Or the shoes just looked that good ($11–Payless brown dress boots.)

Four Foods on Friday 17

Sweet I remembered two weeks in a row, Four Foods on Friday!

Here are this week’s four questions.

#1. What’s your favorite potato chip?  Ridges
#2. Do you use butter, margarine, both or neither?  Both, but mostly butter
#3. What’s your favorite mixed alcoholic (or virgin) drink?  Alabama Slammer
#4. What’s your favorite vegetable and how do you prepare it?  I just discovered Asparagus about a year and half ago.  I love it!  (I do not like the price right now, but hopefully it will be growing in our garden this year!)  We wrap in tin foil with butter and lemon pepper seasoning and put in the oven for about 10 minutes.

Thoughts Fur Paws

I never thought I was a pet person prior to meeting my husband’s cat.  But now I cannot imagine my life without it.  It’s nice to be able to find a place to see stories and Pet Information in one blog.  Not only can you read stories, you can learn about all different pet things.  You can learn about pet injury insurance.   Progressive actually has pet injury insurance which for some people would be a factor in picking auto insurance.  This is something I probably wouldn’t find out anywhere else.  Pets are like family, and its nice to be able to share all the funny stories, the sad stories, and the weird stories with the whole world.  I mean, how can you not want to look at pictures like this all the time?

Easy Pizza Burgers

p2040645.JPG  Do you want an easy Pizza burger recipe? Here is a great recipe that is easy and that kids can enjoy as well as adults.

Ingredients:

1/2 lb extra lean ground beef

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1 can (60z) tomato paste

3/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning (Andy made his own, he doesn’t believe in premixed–i know there was crushed red)

a handful mushroom pieces

4 English muffins, split (which for some odd reason, we actually had)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (we actually had a ball of cheese from paninis)

1.  In non-stick skillet, cook ground beef and onion over med. heat until beef is thoroughly cooked; drain.  Stir in tomato paste, Italian seasoning and mushrooms.  (This mixture can keep up to 3 days before using if you put in the fridge)

2.  Put on English muffin.  We toasted the English muffin, but that was our preference.   If you refrigerate, spread the mixture onto the English muffin, sprinkle cheese on top, and place in microwave for about 2 minutes.

Andy doubled the mixture and this was like 4 meals for us.  2 lunches and 2 suppers.  Very cheap and easy meal.  I was also thinking this would be a good recipe for a kids birthday party.  Kids would have their own mini pizza’s.

House Hunting

One of Andy’s good friends is getting married in June and they are starting to look at houses.  Andy helped them with looking on the computer for houses and set them up with our realtor for looking.  (Side note: it still amazes me that some people my age don’t understand the Internet.  We grew up with it, so it’s amazing some of our friends don’t understand it.)  Andy’s is helping out and is starting to get the house hunting bug again.  Not me.  We looked at hundreds of houses 2 years ago. I do not want to that again for a couple more years.  I do know what to look for now.

I want 2 bathrooms, for sure.  Andy needs a bigger kitchen.  We need a better layout for the house.  Not to mention, we would need a bigger yard.  Plus a double driveway. If we get a 2 level house, we may need to install a stair lift for my mother.  It’s getting harder for her to walk up and down the stairs.

The Stupidest Angel

I read this book “The Stupidest Angel” by Christopher Moore this month.  I have never been high, but I think I know what it is like to be on an acid trip.  This book is so strange.  Its so hard to even explain what it is about, but I will try.  Basically, this town is getting ready for Xmas and an unfortunate murder happens.  Someone dressed as Santa is killed and a little child sees.  They pray to God and God sends down an angel.  This angel is dumb and really strange.  But he’s not really the main character.  The characters that really catch your eye are the pot smoking town constable, his off her meds B-movie wife, a pilot with a pet fruit bat, a dumped scientist and so much more.  The fruit bat talks, the dead talk, the dead walk.

The funny thing is, this book sucks you in.  You have to know what happens next.  This is not a serious book, its a book you read for a good time or if you just want to relax.   I probably would not have picked this book out for myself (it was a an Xmas gift), but I am glad someone did.  I feel actually more sane after reading this book! If that’s even possible!
