Wedding Daze

Whenever my husband leaves for a couple hours, I always have this urge to watch a movie. So I pull up my Netflix account, and start the browse instantly feature. This weekend, I watched “Wedding Daze” with Jason Biggs (American Pie) and Isla Fischer. The story starts a year earlier where Anderson (Biggs) proposes to his then girlfriend Vanessa. She dies on the spot. Fast forward a year and Anderson still is in no mood to date. His friend Ted, encourages him to date while at a diner and on a whim Anderson asks the waitress, Katie (Isla) to marry him. She says yes on a whim and the story goes from there. There are a couple of side characters like Katie’s father whose in jail, Anderson’s parents–Edward Hermann (from Gilmore Girls). Let me just say, this movie makes me look at Richard Gilmore a whole different way.

I liked this movie because I like Jason Biggs. My husband would say its because he reminds of an old friend of mine, but I think its because he can make fun of himself. I like that this movie is a cute romantic comedy, nothing to out of the ordinary. I mean it stretches belief in some instances, but still the premise of the movie is still believable. True love can happen when you first look at someone, such as in the movie a look across a crowded diner. Andy knew I was the one for him the minute he saw me. (Or so he says.) I think I knew too, but wasn’t really letting myself understand what I was feeling.

I would watch this movie again, this time with my husband to see what he thinks of it. It was 1 hour and 31 minutes long and rated R. I would not recommend this for kids under 16.

Breaking Even

I have this addiction I have discovered.  Its called shopping.  At least its shopping for practical things.  But I think I spent all the money I made working in overtime this weekend.  We bought a new cooler to bring stuff to work and I bought some hair stuff and supper.  But then today, we got a flyer from Shopko.  They had the rocker gliders on sale that Andy and I have been looking at for awhile.  So we splurged and got those.  We are going to get rid of the couch in our “formal” living room.  I call it formal because its the real living room, without the television.  They were a good price to, only about $100.  So we got two.  The reason we are getting rid of the couch—its a favorite puking spot of the cat and the couch is like 7 years old.  Here is a picture–super comfy and chairs my mom can get out of.  (Lisa–mom’s still waiting for you to get a chair she can get out of.  You can have one of our brown ones!)

Calling the Cops

Yesterday, as I was driving home, I passed a cop.  I had just hung up (well got disconnect because of the dead zone right by my house).  I felt relieved and then I saw what the cop was doing.  He was talking on his cell phone.   In Wisconsin, it is not a law that you cannot be talking on the phone while driving, but sometimes it seems it should.  People are very inattentive when on the phone.  I will admit that.  I don’t pay as much attention.  But for me lately, I need to be on the phone during the ride home.  I am so tired, sometimes I think I will fall asleep.

Mistaken Identity

Tonight on Dateline, was a very sad story.  It was about 2 girls who were in a car accident and the wrong was declared dead for over 1 month.  They go through the weeks of each family and what they are feeling.  It almost makes me want to grab for wipes.  It really brings tears to my eyes when I think about burying a child and grieving and then finding out they are alive or the other family that thought their daughter was alive for over a month and sat bedside everyday every hour, never leaving her alone.  You want to be happy, but yet you are sad at the same time.

I also realize I am working too much when I think about how much of an insurance issue that will be trying to sort out who pays what.

Hard Days Night

Overtime again this week.  I do not know what is it like to work a normal schedule.  But really, I can’t complain that much.  This is helping us get into really good standing on all our bills.  I just hope I don’t get so sleep deprived that when I think I am talking to my husband, when in fact I am talking to Henri, one of our waiter shaped wine racks in the corner.  Yes, we technically have 2 Henri’s.  We got Henri as an anniversary gift from Andy’s parents, but when he first came, he was missing pieces.  So now we have 4 legs, a couple trays, one head, a couple arms.  If you catch a glimpse of it out of your eye, you could mistake him for a real person.  Or is that the sleep talking?

Munchies

The other day I was watching the news and a really interesting story came on.  A couple rented a non-smoking room at a hotel in the Green Bay area.  The next morning they received the bill slipped under the door with an interesting charge–marijuana smoking charge.  First, the couple denies they were smoking in the room, let alone, pot.  They went to speak to the manager who would not remove the charge.  The couple threatened to call the police, the manager said go ahead.  The couple called the police and guess what–charges removed from their bill.  Not only that, they got a free meal on the hotel and some other free upgrades.   They are still wondering why these charges were even billed to them.

My question is,  pot is illegal.  Why would you charge someone for doing it without calling the police first so you can have a valid charge.  For awhile, at least, this will make me look twice at any bill.

Watch What You Say

My friend and I just learned on Friday how careful you have to be with a 4 year old.  We were playing with Play Doh with my niece and she told my friend Brenda to make a house.  Well, when Brenda was putting the roof on, my niece asked what it was.  We said a roof.  Well that got a song in our head, so we taught my four-old niece “The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire.  We don’t need no water let it burn burn” but as in singing this we said we need to keep the bad words out.  Well, today, when we were playing with play doh, she sang what we told her and then she said “I sang it with the bad words. ”  I think she thought burn was a bad word.  How much does a 4 year old really take absorb in what we are saying.  It’s a good thing we didn’t teach her “Save a horse, ride a cowboy”, we’d have to explain a little more including saddles

Mamma Mia

A couple weeks ago, I blogged about the trouble we had at work ordering the 3 or more deal at Pizza Hut.  For my team lead’s birthday, we decided to order pizza again from Pizza Hut, just to see if it was a one time thing.   This time again when we called we ordered 8 pizza’s.  They ended up charging us $5 per pizza for the first 7 and then $6.99 on the 8th.  We said whatever, we just wanted the pizza.  So when they came to deliver it, they only delivered 8 pizzas.  So we called them back and spoke with a manager.  The manager said the deal is $5 per pizza if you order 3 or more to a total of $7.00.  It does not show a limit anywhere.  Dominoes doesn’t have a limit on their $5 deal.  They did give us a $10 credit, but we really do not want to order from there again.

Bridge Over Troubled Waters

Tonight, I was going through pictures from various trips, remembering the hassels and fun I had with each one.  I know we are going to be heading to California again in the next year (my best friend is moving back there) so that got me thinking about our trip to and the things to do in San Franscisco

The craziest thing that happened there was my friends and husband trusted me to read the guide book.  Yes, I am an English major and am not stupid, but for some reason when I read guide books, I do not read everything in small print.  We wanted to do some Go Cars.  These are go cart things where it guides you around the city.  We started walking up the street that leads to Lombard Street and the numbers kept getting higher and higher.  Well, the number we were looking for, eventually someone one else looked at the book and discovered I had transposed the numbers.  We had continued walking an extra block uphill!  Needless to say, not friendly response from my friends!

We packed so much into that trip from Alcatraz to visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  Who knows when we are ever getting back there again, so we made sure to make the most of the trip.   I know it would be great to find a site that had great family vacation ideas.   As a family, I think San Francisco would be a trip to take when the kids are in their early teens.  Any earlier, I do not think they would enjoy it as much.  I know going back I would rely on tours more than anything else.  To really see the city, you need a guide or at least some sort of direction.  If you do not have a plan, it will be hard to fit everything into a short trip without help!

If you are planning a trip to this area, you should sign up for a newsletter.   The best thing is if you sign up for the Trusted Travels eNewsletter and enter to win an IPOD Nano! Offer ends Monday, March 31st, 2008.

Happy 1 year!

I forgot to post a couple days ago.  I have been blogging for a year now–this is my 992nd post!   I love that I’m technically published now.  Granted its not a book like I always wanted, but I think that will still come someday.  I do have to thank my sister, Lisa, who got me into this.  I do think blogging has brought us closer.  I also think its a stress release for me.  I feel much better after venting on my blog or reading other people’s blog’s after a hard day.  Its been fun, so here’s hoping for another good year!
