Watch What You Say
My friend and I just learned on Friday how careful you have to be with a 4 year old. We were playing with Play Doh with my niece and she told my friend Brenda to make a house. Well, when Brenda was putting the roof on, my niece asked what it was. We said a roof. Well that got a song in our head, so we taught my four-old niece “The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. We don’t need no water let it burn burn” but as in singing this we said we need to keep the bad words out. Well, today, when we were playing with play doh, she sang what we told her and then she said “I sang it with the bad words. ” I think she thought burn was a bad word. How much does a 4 year old really take absorb in what we are saying. It’s a good thing we didn’t teach her “Save a horse, ride a cowboy”, we’d have to explain a little more including saddles.
