Chicken A la King

One of my favorite meals growing up, was microwave chicken a la king. When I find a food or meal I like, I eat it to death until I can not eat it anymore. I recently found a recipe that I think almost matches the one I used to eat. Its supposed to be semi-healthy which we need because I want to lose weight and do not want to use weight loss pills.
Ingredients:
1 cup chopped cooked chicken breast
1/4 cup fat-free milk
1/4 cup frozen green peas, thawed
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 10 oz can reduced-fat, reduced sodium cream of chicken soup
6 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 2 oz jar diced pimentos
2 tablespoons low fat sour cream
2 slices bread

Combine the first seven ingredients in a large saucepan; cook over low heat 10 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream.
Spoon chicken mixture over each serving of toast. Sprinkle with paprika.

Its a very simple and easy recipe. Even I can make it. (I’m not much of a cook–my husband usually cooks, but he said I did good.)

Vaca

Now that the weather is starting to get nice and I look at all the vacation time I have saved up, I have this urge to use all up.  I think at this point I have 3 weeks saved up.  Once we get to 200 hours we start losing it.  I just don’t like planning trips in summer because that’s when everyone goes.  I liked going to Europe in October because it wasn’t the normal time to go on a vacation.  Maybe this year, Andy and I will go on a carnival cruises.  I love my husband, but I only want to go if we can get other people to go.  Its nice to just hang out with a group of people on vacation.  Two couples out of our friends are going to be new parents, so that leaves them out.  I guess I need to go to the either non-married or newly married ones.  Andy loves cruises, I am just afraid I will get seasick.  So I guess we will see.

Strike

Yesterday after the baby shower I went to, I had a work outing. Yippee, hanging out with people I see 40 hours a week anyway! Just kidding, I had a good time. We decided to go bowling. Its something that people do not normally do, but we have a good time because its so fun! I actually got a turkey (3 strikes in a row) at the very end of the first game. I think I got my highest at 147. For Andy and I to bowl 2 games and shoes it only came to $17.00.
We learned something while we were there, too. There was a bunch of guys with 3 bags and luggage carts. We wanted to know why there were 3 bags. When we think of bowling, we think you need a ball and shoes. What would go in the other 2 or 3 bags. We stopped one guy and asked him. He said that he had 6 balls with him. Each ball does something different. We never knew that, so not only did we have fun on this outing, it was educational.

Payday

So every payday, I have been trying to buy something we need. Last paycheck, we bought curtains for our back room. Right now our backroom is our tv room, but eventually when we decide to have kids, we are changing the TV room into our room. The only reason for that is because I do not want a baby room with a patio door. Next week, though we are buying something that doesn’t really seem like its for the house but it is–an usb flash drive and an external hard drive. We need both for the computer because we seem to keep having problems with our computer and stuff getting erased.

Four Foods On Friday

Let’s see if my sister and I answer the same way on some of the questions again:

#1. Cottage cheese. Small curd, large curd, chunk or whipped? Small curd
#2. Burgers. Made fresh, preformed fresh or preformed frozen? I’m actually more of a Boca girl .
#3. If you could only buy one kind of salad dressing what would it be? I don’t do salad dressing. I don’t really do salad.
#4. Share a crockpot or slow cooker recipe: Carrots, 1 can cream of mushroom, 1 can cream of celery, a pound of meat and onion soup mix for a couple of hours.

Geek Speak

I love this thing called the internet. I do not know how what I would do without it sometimes. I would have to actually ask real people to answer my questions. I saw someone yesterday the other day with a lunch bag that said something about “Information Technolgies–we put the GUI in guidance.” I knew this had to be some sort of joke that only someone in IT would know. It bothered me so much I had to look it up on the internet immediately. I guess its the online enviroment where a program in which a program operates. It almost makes me think that there’s could be a saying for CAT5e that I wouldn’t get either!

Write if Off

My husband is a bleeding heart sometimes. Two years ago, one of his friends was really down on his luck. He was pulled over for driving while revocation, he had no job, but still had a cell phone bill. Andy loaned his friend $100 plus dollars after asking me if it was okay. I said as long as we get it back. This is two years later and we are still waiting for the money. He has a job now, a good one, and just recently got his license back. Do you think we have the money? Not only that, his friend thought there was an understanding that he would pay us back after he bought a car. (There was no understanding.) He has the gall to call my husband and invite him out to the bars to watch Brewer games—where he buys beer. He says he’s waiting for a check from the county to pay us back. I don’t really care. He should be either sitting at home or getting a part time job to pay back everyone he owes. Then to top it all off, he just got a DUI. I don’t want to do it, but I think I may have to write off the money. I hate being wrong!

I just saved—

A bunch of money on car insurance. It’s the one good thing about getting older. We become “preferred members” and husband’s speeding tickets are no longer on the insurance anymore. ( I am a perfect driver, or maybe just one that’s never been caught!)  Even with the new car, we are saving a lot of money. But then, the insurance guy brought up life insurance. Right now, we only have life insurance through work, which isn’t that much. He advised us to look into a 10 year plan or 20 year plan, god forbid anything would happen like a car accident or mesothelioma.  It made me feel really old talking about life insurance.   But I have to realize, I am no longer a kid anymore.  When did that happen?

Beerfest

I am going to admit it, I actually really liked this movie.  Sometimes I really think I have a bit of guy mentality.  The movie is about two guys who bring their grandpa’s ashes to Germany during Oktoberfest and are brough to an underground drinking challenge named Beerfest.  The two Americans vow to come back the next year to beat the Germans. They go home and begin to start a drinking team and start training. Basically the movie is a lot of drinking and boy humor. But I would say if you want to watch a funny movie and drink some beer, this is a great movie. Just don’t expect an Oscar winner. My favorite part is the idea that when you learn something when you are drunk, you will only remember it when you are drunk. Interesting concept!

Wax On

My best friend has decided to wax her eyebrows at home.  For me, I think I would be too scared to do it myself.  I am still kind of scared to get them waxed at a salon too.  I have good reason to be afraid.  The day before my wedding, my bridesmaids and I went to get our nails done.  My maid of honor decided to get her eyebrows waxed and I thought that’s a good idea.  I know I get a really red, but it usually disipates after a couple of hours.  I figured I could just wear my vintage sunglasses to hide the redness from my mother.  Well, they burned me a bit.  I had a little red mark.  My sister and friends were able to hide it with concealer and the next morning at the hair salon, they were able to hid the burn, but I think I still see it a little today.  But I will see if that works easy for her, and maybe I will try it.
