Tomato Madness

This year, Andy used Miracle Grow on his tomato plants. Lets just say, we were giving them away left and right. My mother got at least 10-12 tomatoes, he made salsa at least 4 times and he even made spaghetti sauce. Its a really nice feeling knowing we grew it. I can’t belive I never posted a picture of our first tomato that we shared with my mother–we made BLT’s. Here is Andy’s pride and joy:

Here Wii Come

My company offers a wellness account. Basically you do certain tasks and receive money for doing them. Some stuff is quizzes or volunteering or tracking something like fruit and water intake. Basically you can earn up to $250.00 a year. My company will reimburse us for health related items. One of the things on the list is the Wii and Wii Fit. Since I just looked at it yesterday, I nonchalantly brought it up to my hubby (who works at the same place I do so we could get $500 total if we did everything). Since I met him, he’s been dead set on not having video games. He doesn’t want our kids (which are non-existant at this point) to be video gamers. But he surprised me last night and said sure. We normally buy shoes or clothing or weights or a treadmill, but we have all that stuff now. Since he said sure, I’m going to start looking for the right price. A free (essestianlly) Wii sounds like a good idea to me.

Stark Musuem

One of my great loves has blossomed in the past few years, is art. I think it started with an art trip to Chicago in 8th grade. Just this last fall, I got a chance of a lifetime to go to the Louve in Paris and the year before, in San Francisco we went to the San Franscico Museum of Modern Art and The Beat Musuem. I want to try to go to a musuem whenever we go on vacation to further expand my mind.
From our travels, I have found out that I like old art, but not really old art, but definitly not modern art. I think if we are ever in Orange, Texas, we are going to have to go to the Stark Museum of Art. The website actually offers a limited selection of what the museum shows, but to get the full collection, you need to actually go to the museum. I think to actually get the total feeling of art, you have to see it in person.
The museum offers collections of Western Art, Indian Art, Decorative Arts, and Rare Books and Manuscripts. The Western Art spreads over 2 centuries. One of the artists featured in Western Art is John James Audubon, whom I have heard. He is most well known for drawings of birds. I also like the selections shown on the website for Indian Art and Rare Books and Manuscripts which make me what to go visit the museum.
One other thing that the musuem is involved with The Stark Foundation (founded by the musuem starters) which is a non-profit corporation for charitable and education purposes. Their misson is to improve the quality of life in southern Texas through helping with education, the arts, human services, etc. The grants they recieve help fund scholarships and help with funding healthcare services.

So next time you are in Orange, Texas, check The Stark Museum out!

Life: Twists and Turns

My husband loves the game of Life. I like the original board game too.  We can’t really play mine anymore because the thingy between 9 and 10 is gone.  So a couple of years ago, I let my husband buy the game of Life for the computer.  I don’t like it because its missing my favorite part–the spinning of the wheel.

My sister bought this new game (per suggestion from me) for Andy for Xmas.  Last night, we pulled it out to actually play.  First, if you buy this game, you need 2 double A batteries.  The spinner is electronic, which is kind of weird.   (I won the two games)  It was really hard to understand the steps because its pretty much all tracked on the spinner thing.  Each player has a card–its like a credit card–that keeps track of your earnings and debt.

The one thing I do not like, is to win the game the directions say the spinner calculates a “random calculation” to determine your lifepoints.  Ummm, what?   So its entirely random who wins no matter what you do?  Oh and you can only have 9 kids in this game.  I remember in the old game commandeering another car to put the extra kids in.  Plus you pick how many rounds you play, so you can strategize your playing a lot more.  I guess I’m a girl that likes chance, so this game really isn’t going to be for me all the time. But I am having a winning streak, so I may keep up with it!

Cold Weather

Its supposed to freeze tonight so Andy is on his way to the store to buy tarps to put over the plants. Funny thing is that it is going to be about 80 degrees on Saturday. And people are starting to get sick. Imagine that! Hopefully the frost does not kill our plants. Its May, its not supposed to freeze.

Puzzle Fun

I bought a puzzle for Andy and I do instead of watching TV. Its a 1000 piece puzzle, Legends of Hollywood. It is of James Dean, Elvis Prestley, Marilyn Monroe and some other guy. I started separating the pieces for the edges. Andy realized this puzzle is going to be harder than we thought because there are only two different shaped puzzle pieces. I guess its just more quality time to spend with my husband. Once its completed, I will post a picture of the finished product.
