I should have known by just the premise of the movie that this movie was not going to be worth staying up late on Saturday to watch. The movie is about a woman-Shelly (Anna Faris) who is a Playboy Bunny. She lives at the mansion with Hef and the “Girls”–Holly, Bridget and Kendra (don’t even get me started on what I think of the new girls.) She turns 27 and is promptly kicked out of the mansion, thinking it was Hef’s idea. It actually is the evil doing of another bunny that lives in the house. Shelly then becomes a dorm mother to a sorority that is about to be dropped from their chapter. The girls that live in the sorority are a bunch of misfits who ironically once they get their hair done, change their clothes, they are beautiful hot women. Somehow the movie actually got some star names such as Colin Hanks (Tom Hanks son), Rumer Willis, (daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore,) the singer of The All American Rejects (which I Am so proud that I knew it was him–hes a unique looking individual), and Kathrine McPhee. I would say if you have nothing else to watch and you must watch something–this isn’t that bad of a movie.

I had been told prior to my maternity leave that I would probably see a lot of infomercials. Thankfully, we recently changed carriers for our television so we have a couple more stations than we normally did. I caught a movie that was on Netflix list–Super High Me. I loved the movie Supersize me which this movie was a parady of the original. The basic story is Doug Benson (a comedian that I recognized from the Best Week Ever on VH1) smokes pot for 30 days to see how it affects him. He first goes cold turkey for 30 days and goes to several doctors to get a baseline for mental and physical tests. He also tests psychic ability, seemingly just for fun. He continues to track his progress or regression per se once he smokes pot for 30 days straight. The interesting thing about the movie is it seems as though he really took this seriously. The thing I found most interesting is what it seemed Doug found interesting too–you would think after 30 days of smoking it up, you would be sick of it. He wasn’t. I would recommend this as a late night movie to watch when you have time.

I have never seen March of the Penguins, I have never had the urge. But when I heard about Farce of the Penguins I knew it was a movie I couldn’t pass up. The movie came from the odd mind of Bob Saget. I grew up with Bob Saget playing Danny Tanner, the obsessive cleaner father, on Full House. I have learned in years since Full House, that Bob Saget is a very vulgar comic. I’ve heard his stand-up act is riddled with swear words. If you want a little taste, watch the movie “The Aristocrats”. It is a joke that all comedians know, but each comedian tells it differently. The crudest version was from Bob Saget.

Farce of the Penguins is narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, and follows the mating of the penguins. There are a lot of voice overs from Whoopi Goldberg, Lori Laughlin, John Stamos, Monique, Jodi Sweeten, Dave Cougley, etc. It was not as vulgar as I was expecting the movie to be and actually was a cute story. I would say the movie is for young adults or older. But if you have 80 minutes to spare, its a pretty good movie.

Previews can really pull a girl to go to movie. I have never read the “Twilight” series, but the trailer on TV looked so good, I dragged my husband to see the movie last night. We decided on an earlier one (4:30) because we figured it wouldn’t be that busy. Well, it wasn’t sold out, but the theater was pretty packed. Packed with teenage girls. Note: If you are going to go see this movie, go on a school night when teenage girls will not be there. Every time a boy came onto the screen, they shrieked and said “OMG!” It probably didn’t help every time they did that, my husband leaned over and whispered “OMG” into my ear. I tried to explain to my husband not all girls are like that, and growing up, I was not like that.
The movie was pretty good and from what I hear stayed pretty true to the books. Even if you didn’t read the books, they explained everything very well. The movie did take a while to get into, but once you met all the characters, the love story between Bella and Edward could finally start. I like vampire movies, always have. But this is more than just vampires, its about falling in love, controlling ones desires and protecting one another.
The movie was only 2 hours, nothing gross was shown. I look forward to the second one, and maybe in the mean time will actually read the books. It was a good movie if you are looking for something to pass the time.

While visiting Andy’s parents last weekend, we always take in a movie. We were thinking about Body of Lies, but I really wanted to see Nights in Rodanthe and so did Andy’s mother. Through no real true coniving, I actually got my way. We had been shopping early in the day and when we got back, I decided to take a little nap. Well my nap became 2 hours, so had 2 choices of movies and I declared I wanted to watch something other than Body of Lies.
Nights in Rodanthe is a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book. If you have seen The Notebook or A Walk to Remember, this movie has similar themes. The story is about a mother of two (played by Diane Lane) seperated with her husband goes to watch a friend’s bed and breakfast for the weekend. It is off season–hurricaine season, so there is only going to be one guest, (Richard Gere). Richard is in Rodanthe to talk to someone. While he is there, their characters form a bond. (Andy says it is so unbelievable and he didn’t feel or see the chemistry. Diane Lane and Richard Gere just ooze chemistry when they are on screen together.) They become closer doing a hurricaine and then go back to their lives, Samsonite luggage and all. But they are both changed for the better.
Basically, its a love story, mixed with family and grief. If you expect to leave the movie happy, don’t. It is a movie that depicts real life, it isn’t always perfect and things happen you can not control. But love can do anything.

If you are going to see one movie in the theater this summer, go see The Dark Knight. This movie is based on the comic book Batman so it is darker than the Michael Keaton version. Christan Bale plays a morally challenged Batman–the fight between good and evil is within himself and with the Joker. The Joker is played by,unless you live under a rock–you should know- Heath Legder. He does a great job by making the character his own. He does this freaky thing with licking his lips that makes the character even more scary. If you don’t know anything about Batman, don’t worry, the movie explains everything. It is 2.5 hours, and drags at some points, but it feels like there are so many stories going on you don’t really notice. It is worth paying the 8-9 dollars for a movie night.

The 4 words I hated most coming out of my mother’s mouth. I never wanted to accept that answer from my mother, but I always did. This movie staring Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Piper Perabo, Thomas Everett Scott and Lauren Graham. This movie is about a mother (Diane Keaton) who doesn’t want her daughter to end up old and alone and puts out an online ad for her daughter to find love without her daughter knowing. Piper Perabo and Lauren Graham (Lorelia from Gilmore Girls) play Diane’s other daughters who are happily married. They really are not big parts of the plot, but they really all feel like a family when you watch them laugh and talk. Thomas Everett Scott plays one of the suitors who comes a’callin for Mandy Moore’s character whom is very well educated, very smart and very egotistical. Mandy ends up dating 2 guys, one her mother picked and one who found her and the movie is about her finding love. Not to mention the guy who plays Eric Camden on Seventh Heaven, he plays the father of one of Mandy’s suitors and he puts the move on Diane’s character. This is a total chic flick that I recommend to anyone who wants a girls night in and movie that makes you laugh.

I normally love getting calls on my cell phone. But not after tonight. I love horror movies, I always have. But I hate what they do to me when I try to go to bed. I have to make sure the curtains are tightly closed and the nightlight is on. Yes, I can be a bit of a scaredy cat.
This movie is with Edward Burns who plays a cop. This surprises me that Ed Burns would take a role in a horror flick like this, but then again, it’s Edward Burns, he likes weird roles. The movie also has Shannyn Sossoman (The Knight’s Tale or 40 days and 40 nights) who I hated in those movies, but in this movie I was actually rooting for her to live!
Basically, the movie is like The Grudge or The Ring. Once death (or whatever it is) picks you to die, you are pretty much screwed. This movie has the victim leaving a voicemail for themselves at the exact moment of death on the next victim’s phone. So totally unbeliveable, but still scary. I jumped at least 3 times. So I do not want to pick up my phone, especially not to the ringtone in the movie. I have a feeling my husband is looking for that ringtone for me just to freak me out.
It was a good horror movie, short and to the point. This, like The Grudge and The Ring are Japanese remakes that kind of make me want to see more. But don’t call me to talk about the movie, I probably won’t answer my phone for awhile.

I recently ordered P.S I Love You from Netflix. This movie, staring Gerald Butler and Hilary Swank is a movie you have to be prepared for. You have to be in the mood to be sad. You have to be willing to cry. I am so glad I watched this movie prior to finding out about my aunt because otherwise, I would have been crying the whole movie.

This movie is about a woman who loses her husband to a brain tumor. Prior to marrying her husband, she had no direction, after marrying her husband she still had no direction, but through losing him, she found her direction in life. You laugh with her, cry with her, yell at her, and love with her the entire movie. I loved it. Even though I compared the movie to the book, I still really liked the movie. I think the book made me cry more, but I think that’s because it hit on feelings a lot more.

The movie also has a nice spread of supporting characters including Kathy Bates (as the mother of the widow), Harry Conick Jr (suitor of the widow), the guy who played Denny on Grey’s Anatomy (not in the book), Gena Gershwin (best friend of widow), Lisa Kudrow (other best friend), and the guy who played Spike in Buffy (dead guy’s best friend.) There is a lot the movie did not touch on and characters like the widows father, and 3 brothers who are not in the movie. But I guess in a 2 hour movie how can you really build character development.

This movie hits on a real topic that most of us do not want to think about. In the first scene, the loving couple are fighting about having kids and when’s the right time. Turns out, they didn’t have time. It is sad, but they didn’t have to worry about life insurance for kids. But it makes you think about all the talk put into planning on when you have kids. Sometimes, you just have to let go and not be afraid. When you know someone facing mortality, it hits home a little bit more.

I recommend this movie to people who like a good story. It’s sad, but it’s life. Life doesn’t always have a happy ending. But’s its what you do with life that makes it matter.

I am going to admit it, I actually really liked this movie. Sometimes I really think I have a bit of guy mentality. The movie is about two guys who bring their grandpa’s ashes to Germany during Oktoberfest and are brough to an underground drinking challenge named Beerfest. The two Americans vow to come back the next year to beat the Germans. They go home and begin to start a drinking team and start training. Basically the movie is a lot of drinking and boy humor. But I would say if you want to watch a funny movie and drink some beer, this is a great movie. Just don’t expect an Oscar winner. My favorite part is the idea that when you learn something when you are drunk, you will only remember it when you are drunk. Interesting concept!
