Sweeny Todd

I am a self-proclaimed Johnny Depp fan.  He is the one man I would do almost anything for. I know I try to see every movie that contains Johnny.  Actually its more than movies, I try to find things like trying to visit the official Sweeney Todd movie site.  From what I have read, this is one of those great revenge movies.

So it got me thinking of other great revenge scenes from movies past.   Does “My name is Inigo Montoya (don’t know how to spell the name), you killed my father, prepare to die” sound familiar to anyone?  If you don’t know, my husband would be very, very disappointed in you.  According to him, its in one of the best movies ever made “The Princess Bride.”  The scene I am talking about is when Inigo finally finds the six fingered man who killed his father.  The six fingered man scarred Ingio for life, with one slash on each cheek.

The entire movie, he keeps saying this to random people trying to find the killer to exact revenge.  He does at the castle and a sword fight ensues.  Ingio gets a knife in his stomach and is stabbed with the sword in both shoulders.  But then, he gets the upper hand in the fight.  He attacks the six fingered man, stabbed him in the stomach and both shoulders.  He also slashes both cheeks, just as the six fingered man did to him.  The six fingered man says to Ingio that he will give him whatever he wants and before the six fingered man dies, Ingio says ”I want my father back you son of a b*****!”

Sweeney Todd’s premise is built on revenge.  As in the Princess Bride, it is do onto others.  Sweeney is unjustly sent to prison so when he gets out he sets out for revenge on all the injustices that have befallen him.  It sounds like a great movie.  I mean who can play crazy better than Johnny?

What I learned from TV

On the drive home from the in-laws, we saw men in the median of the highway working on Friday.  My first thought was do they get holiday pay.  Then I saw what they were doing.  They had hoses and were spraying green on the dirt.  I actually know what they were doing and it excited me.  I learned it from Mike Rowe.  You know, Dirty Jobs Mike Rowe.  Anyway, the reason they were doing it was to fight erosion–pretty much the green stuff was glue to hold the hill together.  Who ever said you can’t learn anything from television?

Halloween-Rob Zombie Style

Tonight was half price at the Budget Cinema and finally we saw Halloween.  I paid for the tickets, only 3 bucks for the two of us.  Andy got to buy the popcorn and drinks.  (Yes, I know it all comes out of the same account, it just feels better when it doesn’t come out of mine.)

Rob Zombie’s version of Halloween is simply sex, nakedness and murder.  This version does give more information about the history of Michael Myers.  At first, while watching the movie, it upset me a bit that they weren’t giving the reason that Michael was doing the killings.  But I think I finally figured out that there was a point to that.  Michael was a psychopath, he had no remorse and no conscious.  I think the older I get, the more I realize there really are people like that out there.

The music in the movie was great.  They had the normal songs–like Sandman.  But they kept playing “Don’t Feel the Reaper.”   You know, “I need more cowbell.” Saturday Night Live and Christopher Walken.  The other thing I like about the movie, the mother of Michael was played by Rob Zombie’s real wife.

I would recommend this movie for someone who wants a mild scare.  The first one was scarier, but if you like horror movies, this one shouldn’t be missed.  Plus its fun to see helpless victims being stupid when the killer is chasing them by crying and screaming while hiding.

Slapgiving

If you have never watched How I Met Your Mother, tonight was the night to watch.  It was the night Marshall had been counting down to, the night Barney had been dreading, slap number three.  Recap: a couple of months ago Barney and Marshall had made a slap bet which Barney lost.  That meant that Marshall could slap Barney 5 times from then until whenever he finishes.  It actually is a good story line for people who follow the show.  I like it when sitcoms have continuous storyline.  I can’t wait to see when slap 4 and 5 come along. I mean, Marshall even sang a song about the slap.

I’m Addicted

So I really can’t stop myself from watching The Hills on MTV.  Its this sick guilty pleasure I seem to have.  I can’t believe I am actually going to say this, but I actually felt a little sorry for Heidi this week.  She seemed to be really trying with Lauren.  Not that I can really blame Lauren.  I so think Spencer leaked the rumor about the sex tape.  But still, if their friendship ever really meant anything, they could move past this.  Sometimes, I do not miss high school at all!

Jumping the Shark

I have heard a couple of critics saying that Grey’s Anatomy has jumped the shark.  I do see the steps they are taking to make it the show they used to be, but I think a lot of storylines need to be dropped.  Such as Gizze (you know George and Izzy).  You know that is not going anywhere.  But the worst is Meredith and Derek.   You do not always kill a show when you get the main characters together.  I feel like they are killing the show with not having them happy.  Everyone wants him and Meredith together. (I’m watching True Hollywood Story: Patrick Dempsey).

Random Selection

I listen to my MP3 player daily and I have been using random so I don’t have to make play lists.  Today made me think random may not be so random.  First I heard “Crazy” by Patsy Cline.  Next song off was “Crazy” by Gnarls Barkley.   Not only these songs, but then I heard “The Sweet Escape” by Gwen Stefani and then “Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by somebody.  Not so random, not in my mind.

Where isn’t She?

It is amazing how many shows a girl can end up in within a matter of weeks.  Azura Skye–she’s been on House (the patient who said they saw dead people), on Bones (the private eye who found Angela husband) and now on Ghost Whisperer (the ghost who’s supposedly haunting the professor).  She must have a bunch of paychecks coming in the mail.  That would be nice.  I remember her from 28 days with Sandra Bullock (the teenage addict).  She is probably going to be in CSI next week.

The Glass House

On Sunday, I finally got to see the entire The Glass House.  This movie is with Diane Lane and Leelee Sobeski.  Two kids go to live with their guardians (friends of their parents) who are a bit strange.  They live a glass house.  As the movie goes along, you learn that the couple has set up the situation for the movie the kids have.  Its an okay movie, not one I would go out of my way to watch.  But it got me thinking, I haven’t seen LeeLee in any movies  recently.  But I guess she is coming out with some movies this year.  Andy doesn’t agree with me that she looks like a younger Helen Hunt.

Saturday Nights

Andy and I are addicted.  Not to alcohol, but to TLC.  Andy has said if we lived anywhere else than Wisconsin, we would be looking for condos for sale to see if maybe we could get on Property Ladder.  I hate watching the show sometimes because of the stupidity of the flippers.  They never seem to listen to Kirsten, a veteran flipper.  She’s been doing this for 10 years. I would listen to everything she’d suggest.  But we do not live in a booming market.  I would really like to see the payday with flipping though.  I could handle the stress for a couple of months for a $50,000 or more payday.
