New Drinking Game

One of my coworkers told me about a new drinking game they played Monday night during the Packer game.  We live in Wisconsin, we can’t just watch a Packer game–we have to incorporate drinking into it!  The game is really simple—Drink each time Favre’s name is mentioned.  She said they had to quit in the first quarter because they had already Favre’s name at least 20 times! That’s a real quick way to get toasty!

Is it done now?

Brett Favre has been trained to the Jets. My hubby is making we watch the press conference right now. He really should have stayed retired because he went out on top. He still does have my respect because he says it like it is “there were some differences. both sides were at fault.” Here in Green Bay, we know who’s fault it is–Ted Thompson. Hopefully, this is the last time I hear about it! I wonder if Green Bay Brett Favre jersey’s will become unique baby gifts? I also wonder if my husband is going to have to watch both games on Sundays. From what I heard, Green Bay is going to be playing as many Jets games as possible.  Yipee.

Bellin Run

This morning, I took part in my first Bellin Run/Walk. For some reason, this year I am so into doing the walks. I think I finally want to start training for stuff like this. The Bellin Run in Wisconsin has been going on for about 22 years (maybe more) and is 10K or 6.2 miles. My husband had run in it for like 5 years in a row, but our wedding 2 years ago (on the same day as the run) stopped him from the 6th year in a row. But this year, I decided to walk it. My best friend was walking/jogging it with a girl we grew up with who has just recently in the last year lost 153.3 pounds. The only problem was, my hubby doesn’t like to get up early in the morning, so we didn’t get to the race until about 20 minutes before it started. We couldn’t find my best friend at all. We kept on calling each other each time we got to a mile marker or a landmark, but it didn’t really seem like we gaining any ground catching up to her. Finally after mile 3, I told her maybe we would catch up, maybe we wouldn’t. I had pretty much given up catching up because I haven’t been training, I never liked running, so when we would jog, I lost my breath quite easily. So when someone turned around to face us around mile marker 4, I was surprised to see my best friend. I give her a lot of credit for doing these walks–she has juvinille rhemotoid arthritis (since age 2), so it takes a lot out of her to do these walks. She had lost the rest of the group she had been walking with, so it was nice to slow our pace and walk with her. It was also nice to have over 20,000 by 11 a.m. I think we are going to start training for the next 10K run/walk that is in September. Darn exercise bug–it’s bitten me!

We are the Champions….Again

We had our third annual golf outing in my department at work (only second time we have gone) and yet again, my team won!   Last year, I was able to get the putts on almost every hole, but this year–not so much.  We played scramble–which all I know is that 4 people on a team, you take the better ball.  I had fun, although I was feeling a little bit under the weather.  I felt better when Andy let me drive the cart.  That really is my favorite part about golfing!  The only thing I don’t like about the golf outing is that you only really get to see the same 3 people for 2 hours.  But we had fun.  I even shot a really good drive (is that what the first hit off the tee is?) that they used as the best hit.

And yet again, birds were harmed in the golf outting.  Last year, one guy killed a bird.  This year, he was on the team of another person who knocked a birds nest out of a tree (I have no idea how that happened!)  I guess golf really can be a dangerous sport!

Strike

Yesterday after the baby shower I went to, I had a work outing. Yippee, hanging out with people I see 40 hours a week anyway! Just kidding, I had a good time. We decided to go bowling. Its something that people do not normally do, but we have a good time because its so fun! I actually got a turkey (3 strikes in a row) at the very end of the first game. I think I got my highest at 147. For Andy and I to bowl 2 games and shoes it only came to $17.00.
We learned something while we were there, too. There was a bunch of guys with 3 bags and luggage carts. We wanted to know why there were 3 bags. When we think of bowling, we think you need a ball and shoes. What would go in the other 2 or 3 bags. We stopped one guy and asked him. He said that he had 6 balls with him. Each ball does something different. We never knew that, so not only did we have fun on this outing, it was educational.

Holiday? Weekend?

Andy and I only subscribe to the weekend paper.  I like the ads.  That pretty much the only reason we subscibe, oh wait, I like the comics too.  We got a paper today.  Is it a holiday?  I think not.  We got a paper because Brett Favre retired.   He’s just a football player!  A great one, but it’s not like its the end of the world.  I wonder if the press with travel trailers camped outside his house here and in Mississippi just waiting for more news.  He’s retiring.  There really is no more to the story.  Move onto something more interesting–you know, like Britney dumped Adnan.

The End

Today, the news spread like wildfire at work–Brett Favre is retiring.  It was kind of amusing, the radio here would not play music for about 2 hours.  It was like all life and work stood at a stand still until it was confirmed that Brett was in fact retiring.  Good for him.  He’s been playing football for 17 years.   I say if he’s tired, just let him retire.  He gave us some great years.  We did think at work its kind of ironic, it was announced on the 4th!

I’m Bored

So am I strange that I hate SuperBowl Sunday?  I hate that it seems like nothing else can be on TV or nothing else can be going on today.  I only watch for the commercials because you everyone is talking about them tomorrow.  But even in the last few years they have started to suck.  I guess I will just watch a movie on Netflix or maybe look through the new recipe book my sister Lisa suggested Pillsbury Annual Recipes 2007

Go Pack Go

Okay, that was my little bit of encouragement for the Packers today.  I am not a sports fan.  I think living 2 miles away from Lambeau field really did it for me.  On home game days, what I remember about being younger was you really couldn’t get anywhere 2-3 hours before the game and 2 hours after the game because of the traffic.  You know those are the times that I really didn’t want to be home or wherever I was.  But I do have to say I hope they win today, they are a good team with great fans.  I am so sick of hearing about the Packers because everywhere you turn here, someone is talking about them, dressed as them, or looking at something green and yellow.  Maybe the town is where I get my obsessive personality from.  I just deflect it away from the Packers and onto other things.

So in honor of the Packers today, I will not watch the game (they always lose when I watch).  My best and I are going to watch a movie or go to a movie.  I figure the theaters will be empty!

Go PACK Go!

The Mitchell Report

I do not follow sports.  I do not care to.  But I have been hearing stuff lately about the Mitchell report.  Andy told me Bud Segal spent about 40 million on this report.  All I know about this report is that a lot of famous ball players are on there for taking stuff like like steroids, HGB, maybe even prohormones.  But really, what is the point in this?  Are these people going to be kicked out of baseball?  No.  Are they going to get fined? Maybe.  But what really is going to happen is that their reputations are down the drain.  Okay, that’s enough sports talk for me for the rest of the year!
