A coworker just got a Nook from her husband for working so much overtime lately and quitting smoking. I am really really really jealous. What is a Nook? A Nook is a e-book. For a long time, I thought I would not be able to use one, but I watched someone read one at the airport a couple months back. It looks just like you are reading from a book. It would be helpful outside and the best thing is that its battery works for 10 days. And Barnes and Noble has a bunch of free books! I have started dropping hints to Andy to get me one. I am thinking he is not going to get the hints!

I read Melissa Gilbert’s autobiography “My Prairie Life.” I realized that some people are not as they seem or portray in real life. I always thought she was such a good girl and I really was surprised to find out she ran with The Brat Pack. (Sadly I do not think kids today know who the Brat Pack are–Go Anthony Michael Hall–and off to another tangent. Is Psych going to have all the Breakfast club on? They have had Judd Nelson and Ally Sheedy.) She was even engaged to Rob Lowe! The book was a fast read because she had a very interesting life. It wasn’t like reading directory submissions. I kind of wish there was more about her Little House on the Prairie days, but I think that is more because that is what I know her from. That and Lifetime movies. Actually her life could be a Lifetime movie. You have to read the book to really get an understanding of all that she has been though. My favorite part of the book was actually just a little snippet about Johnny Depp. First of all, I am so jealous of her for sitting next to Johnny Depp. Secondly Johnny Depp was checking out her and touched her! I want Johnny to touch me! The other great thing about the book is the afterword of all the suggestions of what the book should be called. My favorite suggestion was Little Ho on the Prarie.

I’m leaving on a jet plane and I do know when I will back back again. Problem is, I think my baby is going to have a bigger suitcase than my husband and I together. Its just so hard packing with a baby in mind. You need diapers. You need wipes, baby food, formula, sleepers, multiple sets of clothing, burp rags, towels, bottles. I just have this fear we are going to forget something. I think we are actually going to have to borrow my parents big suitcase. The other thing that we plan on doing is purchasing diapers and food while we are there, so we shouldn’t have to bring too much, but I want to be prepared.
The worst thing is that right now our baby is fighting something off. He has had an up and down fever all day.

I do not know what is with me lately, but I crave chocolate every day. I have a Hershey bar every morning. It’s catching up with me, but not in the way I expected. I’m leaving the pounds off, but I have finding I am having to find some adult acne treatments. Ever since Gabe, I haven’t been gotten those hormones under control. It doesn’t help that there are all these holidays with chocolate and candy all over the place. Speaking of chocolate–I need to go have a Hershey Kiss!

We love Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network. We thought it would be cool to actually try out a resturaunt. We were watching a while back and noticed there was in Illinois. So we decided that the next time we visited my sister, we would stop there. Its called The Shanty in Wadsworth, IL. We yahoo mapped it and when we got to the street, we realized we have driven past it a hundred times, never really noticing it. We always stopped at the gas station at the corner. It looks like a dump from the outside. Nothing really stands out. But the food makes the difference. We were seated immediately–the only thing that annoyed me was the host (the owner–only knew that cuz of seeing it on tv) didn’t ask if we need a highchair. He was too busy talking about being on the website. I wanted to stop there because they had mussles. But we decided that we needed to get something that we couldn’t get anything else. We ordered alligator bites–deep fried alligator. I hate to say it–it tastes like juicy chicken—yummmy! For the main course I got a hamburger. They do have a conch steak–but it was expensive for lunch and would probably have to be something we split. We plan on going back because there were plenty of things on the menu we would like to order. Oh and one other complaint–the bathroom did not have changing table. That’s my new criteria that I rate places with. I give it a 91 out of 100.

I think I was starting to get cocky that Gabe was a good healthly baby. Today when we picked up Gabe from daycare, she said we have a sick baby. He woke up from his afternoon nap acting blah and feeling warm. When she did take his temp. it was 102. We’ve given him some motrin, but he wasnt acting like he was sick until about 7ish. Nothing would make him happy. And then he burped in my face and I felt like I had face cream all over my face. Right now he is asleep. I am hoping he stays asleep all night and has no fever in the morning. Like someone at work said, she doesn’t know how parents can work the first year with their kids getting sick all the time.

Remember my post a few days ago ranting about the government and the census–about them wasting paper? Well guess what we got in the mail today! We got a little postcard in the mail today asking us to fill out our census. GRRRRR. We filled it out the same day we got it and sent it back. How many trees did they kill this round? I understand they need this census to be filled out—but please do not kill a tree.

Andy and I decided to take my mother out for dinner tonight to pay her back for all the babysitting she does for us. She will not accept money from us so we have to figure out different things to give her. My mother and I are going to go see Little House the Muscial. She likes to read, so I have picked up a couple of books for her too, but I am running out of ideas. I do not think she’d like promotional items, but who knows. Anyways, we went to Gratzi’s for dinner and they told us the wait would be 5-10 minutes for 3 adults and a baby. I was starting to get really annoyed after 8 minutes, especially when they were seating tables of two prior to us–at least 4 tables of 2 before us. And then when they finally seat us, we see all the open tables there are. I can understand wanting people to sit in the bar and have a drink. But seriously, most people with a baby want to walk in, get seated, get served and leave. Don’t try to prolong the visit. We will be in and out and it will be a quick table.

I think someone missed the memo that it is spring tomorrow. It seemed like the weather here actually got the memo early because we had a bunch of days with an average high of 55. But today its in the 40s and maybe a bit lower tomorrow–the first day of spring! But at least we were able to get some outside work done–Andy raked the front yard and I attacked a bush we are taking down in the front. I also cleaned out our flowerbed. Now I am trying to figure out what to put in under our window in the front. I just wish I could plant stuff! We also started going for walks with Gabe, but that is going to cease until it gets back in the 50s.

I am so glad that Andy quit smoking about a year and a half ago. It was one of our stipulations of something that needed to be done before we had a baby. It is amazing how many times the doctors or nurses ask each time you go to bring a baby in if they live in a house that has a smoker. I’ve always hated the smell, but most of all I hate the butts. I have heard about electronic cigarettes, which sound like a good idea. If it will get rid of the butts, I think that is just half the battle. But good thing I do not have to worry about that anymore because other than Andy, none of our friends smoke–amazingly.
