I think I was starting to get cocky that Gabe was a good healthly baby. Today when we picked up Gabe from daycare, she said we have a sick baby. He woke up from his afternoon nap acting blah and feeling warm. When she did take his temp. it was 102. We’ve given him some motrin, but he wasnt acting like he was sick until about 7ish. Nothing would make him happy. And then he burped in my face and I felt like I had face cream all over my face. Right now he is asleep. I am hoping he stays asleep all night and has no fever in the morning. Like someone at work said, she doesn’t know how parents can work the first year with their kids getting sick all the time.

Remember my post a few days ago ranting about the government and the census–about them wasting paper? Well guess what we got in the mail today! We got a little postcard in the mail today asking us to fill out our census. GRRRRR. We filled it out the same day we got it and sent it back. How many trees did they kill this round? I understand they need this census to be filled out—but please do not kill a tree.

Andy and I decided to take my mother out for dinner tonight to pay her back for all the babysitting she does for us. She will not accept money from us so we have to figure out different things to give her. My mother and I are going to go see Little House the Muscial. She likes to read, so I have picked up a couple of books for her too, but I am running out of ideas. I do not think she’d like promotional items, but who knows. Anyways, we went to Gratzi’s for dinner and they told us the wait would be 5-10 minutes for 3 adults and a baby. I was starting to get really annoyed after 8 minutes, especially when they were seating tables of two prior to us–at least 4 tables of 2 before us. And then when they finally seat us, we see all the open tables there are. I can understand wanting people to sit in the bar and have a drink. But seriously, most people with a baby want to walk in, get seated, get served and leave. Don’t try to prolong the visit. We will be in and out and it will be a quick table.

I think someone missed the memo that it is spring tomorrow. It seemed like the weather here actually got the memo early because we had a bunch of days with an average high of 55. But today its in the 40s and maybe a bit lower tomorrow–the first day of spring! But at least we were able to get some outside work done–Andy raked the front yard and I attacked a bush we are taking down in the front. I also cleaned out our flowerbed. Now I am trying to figure out what to put in under our window in the front. I just wish I could plant stuff! We also started going for walks with Gabe, but that is going to cease until it gets back in the 50s.

I am so glad that Andy quit smoking about a year and a half ago. It was one of our stipulations of something that needed to be done before we had a baby. It is amazing how many times the doctors or nurses ask each time you go to bring a baby in if they live in a house that has a smoker. I’ve always hated the smell, but most of all I hate the butts. I have heard about electronic cigarettes, which sound like a good idea. If it will get rid of the butts, I think that is just half the battle. But good thing I do not have to worry about that anymore because other than Andy, none of our friends smoke–amazingly.

I understand the need for all the commericals about the census. I understand all the radio adds for the census. What I do not understand is the reasoning for having to send a piece of paper saying we are sending the census in a week, please fill it out when it comes. That was a really wasteful of the government to do. I can’t even beging to think about how much money was actually on that wastefulness. No wonder we are as a country in debt!

I am so very addicted to 16 and Pregnant on MTV. I am trying to figure out if this glorifies the whole situation or if it really shows teenagers the trials and tribulations of being pregnant and raising a child. I am really leaning towards that it may help deter it. I know having a baby now is hard, I do not think I could have done it 10 years ago (oh my god I am old.) I think the girls on the show do not realize how much they need their parents to support them. They do not understand all the money, hard work, etc. It is just amazing how good those girls look after their pregnancy. I am still dealing with hormones and acne still. Tonights episode is really annoying me. The parents are trying to force the adoption decision on their daughter and they are acting like she has choices. She needs their support to actually raise a kid, and it doesn’t look like they are willing to help her raise the kid. I am so glad I never had to deal with being pregnant as a teen.

I swear my hubby talks on the phone than I do. Actually I know that as a fact because his phone minutes are always more than mine. I think his friends and him are actually more girls than my friends and I are. Of course, they do not talk about clothes they are wearing or stuff like that–they do talk about sports and working out–or hunting. The worst thing is–my hubby doesn’t hunt. But he will sit there and listen to his friend telling him about what he didn’t see while hunting! I would understand long conversations about actually killing something, but no. Hmmm, maybe I should go see what my hubby is doing right now. Oh look he’s on the phone!

Gabe’s first birthday is fast approching. I am ahead of on some things. We have already bought his gift Little Tikes Swing Along Castle. I think he will really enjoy that! What do we pick as a theme? Pooh, Hawaiian, pirates, cars? Then do I get invitations to match? I was at Factory Card Outlet today and had a heck of a time trying to find invitations there. It was like trying to find Ferrari parts in a junkyard–not too easy. I found some Spongebob Squarepants ones that I still have, but then I feel like we have to do a Spongebob theme. Plus I want the cake decorations to match the theme. Am I just stressing myself out over this too much? On a side note–Factory Card Outlet was a major disappointment this time–normally I find a couple good humorous cards. It was all picked over. It seemed like there were maybe 7 cards in the slots. That was a bit annoying.

I do have to say that I am not a huge fan of fish. But one thing that really helps me want to eat fish is the best commerical ever—for McDonald’s filet of fish. We absolutely love that commerical and Gabe loves hearing it when we sing it to him. I guess its become sort of a lullaby for him. We used to listen to that commerical (which is a big thing because we have DVR and we normally just go through commericals) when he was in my belly. Of course my hubby loves the song so much he sings it every couple of months and gets it stuck in my head! It is even better since they are using the same actors they did last year. I hope they use the same guys next year. Now we have to decide whether or not to get the toy fish to put on the wall (they have them at Toys R Us).
